The sub-project "Parents Asking Parents" (ElfE) was initiated by the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin and the Association Gesundheit Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. in 2015. They cooperated with the two partners: the municipality Marzahn-Hellersdorf (Berlin), the municipality Lauchhammer (Brandenburg) and with the Network Healthy Children Niederlausitz. After the first funding period (01.02.2015-31.01.2018) the project was continued by the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin in cooperation with the municipal centre for children, youth and families named Haus "Aufwind" of the Jugendwerk Aufbau Ost JAO gGmbH.
ElfE was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in two funding phases from February 2015 to April 2021 (FKZ: 01EL1423B/01EL1823D). The background of the project was formed by present health reports in Germany which regularly reveal developmental differences associated with the social living circumstances in early childhood. Regarding these reports, the research project “ElfE” aimed to examine and improve health equity in families with pre-school children. More precisely parents with children who already attend or want to use a day care centre in the future were qualified as peer researchers. The project was so designed that the entire research process—from the definition of the research question to the analysis of the data—be organized and implemented in partnership with those who lives are the subject of the research.
The two funding phases can be found in detail under the following pages:
